Rock & Stone Calculator
Find out how many tons of rock or gravel you need — no overbuying, no shortages.
Multiply the length x width. For walkways, measure the length times the width of the path.
sq ft
2 inches works for most decorative rock. Go deeper for driveways, drainage, or weed control.
Quick Tips
1
Rock is sold by the ton, not the yard. This calculator accounts for the average density of stone (~1.4 tons per cubic yard).
2
Lay landscape fabric first under decorative rock. It stops weeds from growing through and keeps the rock from sinking into the soil.
3
Bigger rocks need deeper coverage. Pea gravel at 2" works great, but river rock might need 3-4" to fully cover.
